Endangered Patrimony
03:52
Most of the Lords of the realm are adapting to the ways of the Empire. Feeling the tightening grip, awaiting the coming upheaval, Lord Baerston thinks to himself: "Will all values evaporate? Will everything be turned to dust? Is there nothing which will remain, except memories of what was once held in honour?"

As Lord Baerston reflects on the upheavals he sees in his world, and how doing what he perceives to be right is frowned upon by so many, he remembers an ancient saying: "When the foundations are being destroyed, what can the righteous do?" Yet, in the mess that nearly overwhelms him, he can hear the rhythm of Life itself. And he remembers that beneath all this, there is another Foundation, One which cannot be shaken.

Outside the Walls
04:52
Lord Baerston is preparing for coming the siege. His soldiers are organising the defence of the castle, and he keeps thinking - are the preparations enough, has he done everything he could? Soon, his enemy will be there. Outside the walls.
Lyrics:
"Whatever I do
However I prepare
Far too soon
He will be there
...Outside the walls"

The Enemy Within
03:46
As the siege is drawing near, Lord Baerston thinks to himself: Sometimes it is not the enemy on the outside who is the real danger. It can also be the enemy within. It need not be betrayal, or even cowardice. It may well be exhaustion or anxiety. Alas, to suffer from these...

"...and on that day, my castle fell." As Lord Baerston tells us about the fateful day when the besieging army conquered his castle, he looks away. Tears are streaming down his cheeks at the memory of what happened. How could the stronghold of his father and grandfather not withstand the onslaught? But the Empire has vast resources. That is, of course, the reason.
14. |
Even after the siege, there is a glimpse of hope. The castle is only a ruin, Lord Baerston has lost so much. But he's alive. This is not the end of him.
For he is not alone. Ever.

Thus end the chronicles of Lord Baerston. Who knows, maybe the hope we glimpsed will come to fruition some day? Will our knight be restored to his former position? What about the Empire? Will its power decrease or grow even more? Many tales are yet untold...
